James Frederick "Fred" Terry, 89, life-long resident of Delaware, passed peacefully, on Sunday, February 8, 2026, at Grady Memorial Hospital, with his family by his side.
Fred was born September 26, 1936, to the late Alice V. Wilson and James A. Terry in Delaware, Ohio. Fred was raised by his grandmother Mary Miller. Fred graduated from Willis High School Class of 1955. Fred excelled in sports in High School, playing football, basketball and baseball. In 1948, at just 12 years old, Fred won the Golden Gloves for boxing in Marion, Ohio. He was inducted into the Delaware Hayes High School Hall of Fame in 2005. After graduation, Fred served 6 years in the United States Army Reserves.
Left to cherish Fred's memory are his children, Lori Terry (Mickey Hill), Mary Terry, Dan Terry (Kathleen Johnson), Tommy (Yolanda) Terry and Joey (Elizabeth) Terry; grandchildren Melissa Harris (Derrick Zanders), Tony Ratleff, William Terry, Dillon (Lauren) Terry, Matthew Terry (Emilie Cole), Emily (Adam) Hansen, Gavin Terry (Brooke Garrett), Vanessa Terry (Ryan Jarvis), Zach (Leana) Terry, Austin (Katie) Terry and Ethan Terry; great-grandchildren Olivia, Ericka, Ava, Mila, Jaxson, Brycen, Lillian, Eliza, Liam, Seamus, Maggie, Lorelei, Halston, Rowan and Genevieve; and one great-great grandchild on the way; sister Shirley Cain
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandmother Mary Miller, and his wife of 24 years Sandra L. Terry, who passed in 2022, and granddaughter Amy Amato, sister Barbara Russell.
When Fred wasn't working as a carpenter, and providing for his family, they were taking family bus trips to Kentucky and southern Ohio, which also included his extended family. Fred's family meant everything to him.
Friends may join the family on Thursday, February 12, 2026, from 10 a.m. – noon at the Snyder Funeral Center, Delaware Chapel, 101 Valleyside Drive, Delaware, Ohio 43015, where funeral services celebrating the significance of Fred's life will take place at noon. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in Delaware, Ohio.
Memorial contributions in Fred's Honor may be directed towards the Delaware City Schools, Athletic Department, Delaware City Schools Hayes Athletic Department, 74 W. William St., Delaware, OH 43015.

He was one of a kind. Made an best ham loaf . He was a very dear friend . Sandy, Dick and I hosted their wedding in Vegas. We all were so close .he will be sadly missed.
