James D. Thomas

James D. Thomas, 79, of Castleton, passed away Sunday, October 12th 2025, at the Riverside Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. James was born in Albany, New York the son of the late Franklin D. and Jane (Brown) Thomas. He proudly served in the United States Marines during the Vietnam Era of which he served two tours. James's interests included running, teaching others how to successfully complete a marathon, and going out with his sons for Monday night football. He was a member of the VFW, Elks, and various runners associations. He retired from Government Affairs for Verizon telephone after 30 years. He also worked as a personal accountant for many years prior. Survivors include sons, Matthew D. (Jamie) Thomas and Michael J. Thomas; and sister, Beth DiBiasio. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Mariah G. Thomas in 2022. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his calling hours Thursday, October 16 from 10:00am - 12:00pm followed by a funeral service at 12:00pm in the Wm. J. Rockefeller Funeral Home, 165 Columbia Tpk. Rensselaer. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery,Castleton, NY. Contributions in James's memory may be made to Danna Farber Cancer Institute.
