James M. Thron

James M. Thron, 82, of Oneida and formerly of Rome, died on Sunday, February 11, 2024, at Wynn Hospital, Utica.

He was born on July 20, 1941, in Rome, NY, the son of Marvin Henry Thron (Thron's Pond) and Edna Suits Thron Fitzgerald. Jim graduated from RFA in 1959. On August 16, 1969, he married Patricia A. Ferlo. He worked, as a maintenance machinist, at Rome Manufacturing Division, Revere Copper and Brass, from 1975 to 1982, and as a maintenance engineer, at Bethany House, from 1983 to 1994. He then worked at the Oneida Correctional Facility, retiring in 2017. James was a lifetime member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church. He enjoyed tinkering with small engines and was a train and model car enthusiast.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia; daughter, Valerie Thron Pollack and her husband, Darren; son, James Edward Thron and his fiancee, Felicia Cruz; four grandchildren, Vanessa Loomis, James K. Thron, Aden P. Thron and Destiny Oliver.

Funeral Services will be held at 3 p.m., Friday at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 502 W. Chestnut St., Rome. Burial will be in Rome Cemetery in the spring. Relatives and friends may call, at the church, on Friday from 1 to 3 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church.
