James Thrower Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Anniston Memorial Funeral Home on Mar. 30, 2026.
Funeral services to celebrate the life of Mr. James Edward Thrower, 87, of Wellington, will be held on Friday, April 3, 2026, at 12:00 PM at Anniston Memorial Funeral Home. Rev. Clint Parris, Rev. Jason Thrower, and Chris Parker will be officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 11:00-12:00. James will be laid to rest in Maple Grove Cemetery immediately following the service.

James gained his eternal reward, meeting his Lord and Savior face to face, on Friday, March 27, 2026.

He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Edward Thrower; his mother, Willie Mae Wright Rascoe; and his brother, Jerry Thrower.

Left to cherish the memory of James include his wife of 47 years, Susan Smith Thrower; his children, Jason Edward Thrower (April), Joey Patrick Thrower (Alicia), Scott McKendree (Amanda), and Jennifer Daniel (Robert); 10 grandchildren, Mark Thower, Luke Thrower, Nicholas Wallace, Ashton Wallace, Benjamin Thrower, Cason Thrower, Cameron Thrower, Faith Lozen, Sam Mills, and Austin Farley; and his sister, Diane Thrower Marsh (Ray).

James was a lifelong member of West Point Baptist Church and a member of the Dallas Masonic Lodge #228 in Cleburne County. He owned and operated J&J Laundry and Norge Village Laundry in Jacksonville for many years, which now is the present site for Walgreens and Struts. James also worked for Union Foundry (McWane, Inc.), retiring after 40+ years as a Millwright.

James was a loyal and devoted husband, a hard worker and excellent provider. He was a protector of his family, a loving father, and was dedicated to helping them at any time. James was generous to a fault, giving with his whole heart to those in need. No matter who came into James' life, if there was a need he made sure to invest in each person. James knew what it was to have to work to live and that is how he lived his life…nothing was free, but anything could be obtained through grit and determination. James will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him and forever remembered for the kind and caring person he was.

Those serving as pallbearers for James include Luke Thrower, Nicholas Wallace, Ashton Wallace, Brock Davis, Jaron Waldrop, and Will Parker.

The family would like to extend special thanks to East Alabama Hospice, Dr. Rana and his staff, Linda Brock (RN), and David and Lisa Weaver.

Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Alabama, https://www.bbbsneal.org/donate/ or to Tunnel to Towers Foundation, https://www.t2t.org/donate or by mail via the printable form on the website.
