James Thomas "Jim" Tompkins

James Thomas "Jim" Tompkins, age 71, of White Springs, Florida, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 29, 2025, after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. A man of faith and quiet strength, Jim lived a life rooted in hard work, devotion to his family, and steady trust in the Lord.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at White Springs First Methodist Church in White Springs, Florida. Interment will follow at Prospect Primitive Baptist Church, Belmont.

Jim was born on September 8, 1954, in Tampa, Florida, to the late Rev James T. Tompkins and his wife, Vesta Campbell Tompkins. He was raised with strong Christian values that guided him throughout his life and shaped the man he became. Jim retired from the Florida Department of Corrections after many years of dedicated service. Never one to sit still, he went on to pursue several careers, including real estate, security at Lake City Medical Center, and most recently the owner of Columbia Mattress and Furniture in Lake City, Florida. In every role, Jim was known for his integrity, reliability, and friendly spirit.

He is survived by wife, Amelia Hunter Tompkins of White Springs; sons, Joshua Tompkins and his wife, Malena, of Austin, Texas; Daniel Tompkins and his wife, Cassie, of Providence, Florida; grandsons, Gabriel and Zach Tompkins; step-daughter, Kena Palmer and her husband, Josh, and their children, Sydney and Hayes Palmer. One sister, Sandra T. Dempsey, her husband Mickey.

He is also remembered fondly by extended family, friends, and all who were blessed to know him. Jim found joy in providing for his family and took pride in his children and grandchildren. His steady presence, gentle wisdom, and faithful heart will be deeply missed but forever cherished.
