James "Rayford" Trawick, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, left this world on December 2, 2024, at the age of 79. Born on May 14, 1945, in Blakely, Georgia, Rayford was a beacon of light and joy to all who knew him. He passed away peacefully in Salem, Alabama, surrounded by the love of his family.
Rayford is survived by his beloved spouse of 61 years, Dagmar (Heidenthal) Trawick, affectionately calling him "honey bunney," a testament to their enduring love and companionship. He was a devoted father to his two children, Darrell Trawick (Tawana) and Amanda Trawick, who will carry forward his legacy of kindness and integrity. His four grandchildren, Ashley Coleman, Darrel Trawick II, Ashley Trawick, and Auburn Trawick, along with his five great-grandchild, will miss his guidance and the stories he shared. Rayford also leaves behind his siblings, Roger Trawick, Barbara Ann Foster and Dorothy Baker, who will remember him fondly for his warmth and humor. His uncle, Jimmy Trawick, brother-in-law Ricky Heidenthal (Annette) and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins, also mourn his loss. Rayford was preceded in death by his parents, James Carl and Loradene (Lindsey) Trawick, and his brother, Ellis Trawick.
A man of the earth and of faith, Rayford was known for his exceptional gardening skills. His ability to cultivate everything, some of his favorite's plums and muscadines were admired by many and brought beauty and nourishment. He was a true man of God, living his life with a strong sense of spirituality that guided his actions and relationships.
Throughout his life, Rayford fostered a deep connection with animals, especially his loyal German Shepherd, Lucky, who was a constant and loving companion. His love for his dog was a reflection of his compassionate and caring nature. Rayford's interests were as varied as they were passionate. He poured his heart into everything he did, whether tending to his garden, spending time with his family, or engaging in his spiritual practice. His enthusiasm for life and his unwavering commitment to his loved ones and faith were an inspiration to all.
A memorial service to celebrate Rayford's life will be held on Friday, December 6, 2024, at 2 p.m. ET at Colonial Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Newsome officiating. It will be a time for friends and family to gather, share memories, and honor the remarkable life of a man who touched so many hearts.
