Jimmy was born March 5, 1936, in Spartanburg, South Carolina, son of the late Harry Turner and Mary Fonville Turner.
Survivors include his wife, Norma Turner; daughter, Zade Conner and husband, Tim of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; sons, James "Dondi" Turner and wife, Brenda; Bennett Turner and wife, Monica of Myrtle Beach, SC; and five grandsons, Sean and Cameron Conner, Gabe Eason, and Nicholas and Noah Turner. He was also the proud stepdad of Scott Pulley and wife, Kelly of Clayton, NC and Chad Pulley and wife, Christy of Tega Cay, SC and grandchildren, Justin, Connor, Meryn, and Chase. He also had three great-grandchildren. He was affectionately known as Papa to all his grandchildren.
Survivors also include brother, Dan Hoskins of Cross Hill, SC; brother, Harry Turner and sister, Amelia Hendrix of Awendaw, SC.
He was predeceased by his sister, Mary Morrow of Medford, OR, and brother, Austin Turner of Awendaw, SC.
Jimmy attended Wofford College in Spartanburg, SC and The Citadel in Charleston, SC before joining GTE where was as an employee for 37 years and served in various management positions in Sumter, SC, Durham, NC, Dothan, AL and Myrtle Beach, SC where he retired as General Manager for the State of South Carolina. Shortly after retirement, he served as General Manager of the Dunes Golf and Beach Club. He was a former member and President of the Rotary Club of Myrtle Beach and enjoyed teaching Sunday School for many years. He was an avid tennis player and loved watching Alabama football. He also loved nothing more than getting a great meal at many restaurants across the Grand Strand.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at McMillan-Small Funeral Home in Myrtle Beach conducted by Dr. Wayne Brown. Family will receive friends prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospital and/or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
