James Turner Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by James Funeral Home on Sep. 27, 2025.
Mr. James Everett Turner III, 86, of Mooresville, NC, formerly of Charlotte, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at the Levine & Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville. He was born on March 1, 1939, in Mecklenburg County, the only child of the late Elizabeth Owen Turner and James Everett Turner, Jr. After graduating from Lees-McRae College, Jim entered the U.S. Army in 1961 and was stationed at Fort Rucker, Alabama. While there, he met the love of his life, Sylvia Grey Swacker. The two were married on August 29, 1964, and shared 49 wonderful years together. Jim enjoyed a long and successful career as a textile chemist and later became a dye and textile salesman and consultant, finishing his career with Standard. He was also a devoted mentor and coach, especially when his sons Mike and Mark were active in sports and hunting. Jim was known for also being a great shot himself. He enjoyed watching golf and the Carolina Panthers. Jim and Sylvia were original PSL owners and would cheer the Panthers on for many years. Known for his kind heart and gentle spirit, Jim was a true Southern gentleman. He loved the outdoors, nature, and hunting, and found great joy in simple pleasures-family gatherings, time spent with loved ones, and quiet days at his farm in Cheraw, SC. He instilled in his sons the values of sportsmanship, hard work, and integrity. Above all, Jim cherished his family. He was a loving father, father-in-law, and friend, but his greatest joy was being "Pop" to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A faithful member of Hopewell Baptist Church for over 20 years. Jim sang in the choir and served as a deacon. He also enjoyed listening to music, especially John Denver and Chris Stapleton, which often filled his days at the farm. Jim will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his devoted sons, Michael (Sandra) Turner and Mark (Sheridan) Turner; grandchildren Drew (Kerrie) Turner, Cameron (Ross) Robison, Colby (Madison) Turner, Chase Turner, and Madeline Wasulko; and two great-grandchildren(McCoy & Kase) His legacy of love, kindness, and faith will live on in all who knew him. Memorials in memory of Jim can be made to: VIA Health Partners (Hospice) PO Box 470408 Charlotte, NC 28247 with a note indicating that the donation is for the Levine & Dickson Hospice House in memory of James Turner, III, or the Hopewell Baptist Church Building Fund in lieu of flowers.
