James Vance, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away at the age of 80 on November 2, 2024. Born on September 1, 1944, in Richlands, VA, James lived a full and vibrant life, leaving behind a legacy of love and laughter.
Having worked as a fire chief for several years at the Miami East Volunteer Fire Department. James dedicated his career to protecting and serving his community. His love for cars, particularly Mustangs, was evident in his spare time as he relished working on and painting them. With a 41-year tenure at the Ford Motor Company, James's passion for automobiles shone brightly.
His sharp wit and humor endeared him to all who knew him, and he found joy in joking and sharing laughs with those around him. A 32nd-degree Mason, James valued brotherhood and community spirit. Embracing his faith, he was baptized and held his beliefs dear.
A family man at heart, James adored spending time with his grandchildren, creating cherished memories that will endure. He spent time with his sons volunteering as their Boy Scout leader for troop 244. Music was a constant source of joy, and he often found solace in song. Vacations with his beloved wife Sheila allowed them to explore and relax together, building a lifetime of shared adventures.
James is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sheila Vance, his sons; James Vance and Scott (Jenny) Vance, grandchildren; Christina Vance and Megan (Liam) Acton and soon to be great-grandfather of Elliot Acton, his brother Dan (Louise) Vance, his brother-in-law Bob Davis, sister-in-law Barbara Jean Spencer and his aunt Barabara Golden. He is also survived by his friends, Ed Clark and Ron Reed to name a few as well as many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his sister Judy Bottema.
In honor of James's life, funeral services will be held at Evans Funeral Home, Goshen, on November 6, 2024. A visitation will take place at 10:30 am, with the funeral service commencing at 12:00 pm to celebrate his remarkable journey. James Vance's spirit will live on in the hearts of those who loved him, forever remembered for his kindness, humor, and devotion to family. May he rest in peace.
