James VanHorn Obituary
Born March 18, 1958, in Staten Island, NY, he was the son of the late William and Ellen (Kindt) VanHorn.
He attended Easton Area High School. Jim received a B.A. in sociology and psychology from Moravian College, an M.S. in marriage and family counseling from Chestnut Hill, and an M.S. in education psychology from Louisiana Tech.
Jim was an adjustment to blindness counselor for the former Center for Vision Loss, Allentown, now Sights for Hope, where he served on the board of directors. He provided cane training to the visually impaired, allowing them to live their dreams.
He loved spending time with his family and going on cruises together, listening to music, whitewater rafting, camping and skiing.
Jim was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Williams Township, where he served as council president.
Surviving is a daughter, Tonya M. VanHorn, of Easton; two sons, James E. "Bo" VanHorn, Jr., of Easton, and Jason M. VanHorn and companion Jessica Witt, of Bethlehem Township; eight grandchildren, Isaiah, Kayla, Evann, Eligh, Ethan, Takai, Brydan and Alexia; a great-granddaughter, Azarea; two brothers, Henry VanHorn and his wife Beverly and Lenny VanHorn, both of Easton; two sisters, Jeannie VanHorn, of Buckhannon, WV and June Drexler, of Easton; nieces, nephews and his companion, Jack Helm, of Williams Township. He was predeceased by a daughter, Angie Lynn VanHorn; six brothers, Ronald, William, Chester, Terrence, Lawrence, and Lester "Fish" VanHorn, and a sister Mary Lachwich.
A memorial service will be held at 11am Thursday, February 5th in St. John's Lutheran Church, 2745 Morgan Hill Road, Williams Township. Call Thursday 10-11am in the church. Arrangements are by Strunk Funeral Home, Inc., Easton. Offer online condolences at www.strunkfh.com

To my uncle Jimmy, I never said it to your face, but you helped me grow into the man I am today, there are things every little boy should here from there father but I got that from you, I worked extra hard in sports because you gave me something to fight for, and for that you will be greatly missed, when I see you agin I will tell you to your face that you had your heart on your sleeve and wasn´t afraid to show it.

When my husband lost his sight, we were introduced to James as his counselor. He was such an intricate part of our lives, guiding both my husband and myself through the journey of blindness.
When my husband went to camp for the first time, James was there to be a support and lead him.
We attended his meetings weekly with the group and made many friends and always felt better when we walked out the door.
He was a blessing in our lives as he was too many. My condolences to your family,
my heart weeps for you.
