TIPP CITY -- Vaughan Jr., James R. age 74 of Tipp City, Ohio passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family and friends on Sunday, August 22, 2021. Born February 11, 1947 in Mercedes, Texas to the late James R. and Betty Vaughan. Along with his parents he is preceded in death by one daughter, Maggie Vaughan.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Kay [Kessler] Vaughan, son, Steven (Robin) and daughter Karen Vaughan, both of Louisiana, and daughter Shanna (Kent) Moore of Troy, Ohio, sister Linda Muir of California, brother, David (Annette) Vaughan of Arizona, and brother John (Diana) Vaughan of Iowa. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Jim retired from the United States Air Force after 25 and a half years and later retired from the Miami County Courts after 20 years.
Jim was a life member of the American Legion Post 586, Tipp City where he served as Post Commander and Post Chaplin. Jim also served as Chaplin for the American Legion 3rd District and Department of Ohio. The Ohio American Buckeye Boys State was a favorite passion of Jim's. He ended as the Assistant (2.1) to the Director.
Jim had a great love for boats, camping, and fishing. He loved being on the boat, especially with the grandchildren. He also got a real kick out of watching the kid's fish.
Donations may be made in loving memory of Jim to the Hospice of Miami County, P.O. Box 502, Troy, Ohio 45373, or the American Legion Post 586 to support the American Buckeye Boys State program, 377 N. Third St., Tipp City, Ohio 45371.
Visitation Monday, August 30, 2021 from 5:00-8:00 PM at Frings and Bayliff Funeral Home, 327 W. Main St., Tipp City, Ohio 45371. Funeral service will be held the following day, Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at 10:30 AM at the funeral home. Family friend, Rick Bolner, officiating. Military and committal services will be held after the funeral at Maple Hill Cemetery, Tipp City. Arrangements have been entrusted to Frings and Bayliff Funeral Home.
