Obituary published on Legacy.com by Darst Funeral Home on Feb. 3, 2023.
Services for James Thomas (Todd) Vitz, 79, of Kingwood, Texas will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 11, 2023, at the First Baptist Church of Laneville, Texas with the Reverend Brady Weaver officiating. Todd Vitz went to be with his Lord and Savior on January 15, 2023.
Todd was born Nov 4, 1943, in Amarillo, TX to John and Katherine Vitz. He graduated from Dumas High School in 1963. James served as a SGT in the U.S. Air Force, Air Mechanics Division from 1965 to 1968. During the time of his service, he served in Da Nang during the Vietnam War. After he was honorably discharged from his service, he worked as an airplane mechanic at General Dynamics in Ft. Worth. Todd hired on to Missouri Pacific Railroad as a train engineer until the age of 65 when he retired. He married Jo Ann Vitz on May 22, 1999, in McKinney, TX and they settled in Kingwood, TX.
He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed by all his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He loved hearing stories of their accomplishments and was excited when they visited. He loved spending time with family. He was a practical jokester to the very end, which is one of the characteristics everyone loved about him. He loved life, loved to laugh and make others laugh. He will be deeply missed by those who loved him.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jo Ann, parents; brother, John (Chacie) Vitz; brother, William Vitz; and nephew Cary Vitz.
Loved ones include his daughter, D'Ann Haberman and husband Ed; son, Brien Vitz and wife Teresa; stepsons, Ken Story, his wife Debbie and family, Roger Story, his wife Bonnie and family, and Marvin Story.
