James “Bill” William DeSmidt, 68, formerly of Fort Dodge, passed away on Monday, December 8, 2025 at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown.

James DeSmidt was born on December 12, 1956 in Fort Dodge. He was the son of Robert Lisle and Mildred Eva (Johnson) DeSmidt. Bill proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. Bill had previously worked at Iowa Workforce Development as an unemployment hearings manager.
Bill is survived by his siblings: Robert (Toby) DeSmidt of Sioux City, Iowa and Pamela (Greg) Anderson of Cambridge, Iowa. He is also survived by five nieces and three nephews.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents: Bob and Mildred; sister: Sandy Chase and brother-in-law: Garry Chase.
