James Walker Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by American Heritage Cemetery, Funeral Home & Crematory on Feb. 6, 2026.
James Richard Walker, 72, of Odessa, Texas, passed away on February 3, 2026, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.

James was born on April 8, 1953, in Brownwood, Texas, to James Hubert Walker and Virginia Ruth (Manley) Walker. He later made Odessa his home, where he built a life centered on family, service, and friendship. On July 11, 2005, he married Helen Ann Walker in Odessa, Texas, and the two shared many meaningful years together.

James proudly served his country in the United States Army, where he worked as both a medic and a drill sergeant. Throughout his life, he was truly a jack of all trades, known for his strong work ethic and versatility. He worked for TXU Electric, Halliburton, and many different oil and gas and trucking companies over the years, adapting his skills wherever he was needed.

Known for his outgoing nature, James never met a stranger and was quick to strike up a conversation with anyone he met. In his free time, he especially enjoyed riding his motorcycle, a passion that reflected his love for the open road and adventure.

He is survived by his loving wife, Helen Ann Walker of Odessa, Texas; his seven children, Patricia Siddall (Casey) of Midland, Virginia Gibson (Richard) of Midland, Amanda Hennessy (Ed) of Odessa, Henry Poland of Odessa, Douglas Poland of Missouri, Mark J. Poland of Odessa, and Kimberly Mann of Odessa; and his five cherished grandchildren, Camryn Siddall, Valarie Larremore, Arissa Gibson, Patrick Gibson, and King Hennessy.

James was preceded in death by his parents, James Hubert Walker and Virginia Ruth (Manley) Walker.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 13, 2026, at American Heritage Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m., also at American Heritage Funeral Home.
