Norman Nelson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Waxahachie Funeral Home on Feb. 6, 2026.
Norman Nelson was born on April 8, 1962, in Odessa, Texas, to Perry and Carroldean Nelson. He was raised in Odessa, Texas, where his love for theatre began.

After college, Norman moved to Dallas, Texas, where he lived for the remainder of his life. He worked for Xerox until his retirement.

Norman enjoyed music, particularly jazz and classic rock, and had extensive knowledge of both. He was highly skilled with computers and technology and enjoyed cooking.

Though Norman faced challenges throughout his life, he was not defined by them. In his later years, he devoted significant time to serving on the Parkland Patient and Family Advisory Council, where he was a member for eight years following the council's inception in 2018, advocating for patients and contributing valuable insight.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Perry and Carroldean Nelson.

Norman is survived by his sister, Maryjane, and her husband, Robert; his nieces, Samantha and CJ, and their husbands; and three great-nieces and two great-nephews.

There will be a celebration of life held at Ojeda's Restaurant, 2109 N. Hampton Road, Desoto, Texas 75115 on Sunday, February 15, from 3:30 to 5:30 PM.

I was so sorry to hear of Norm's passing. He served on the UTSW Community Advisory Panel, known as the CAP, for which I was the Program Coordinator. Norm provided valuable input during the meetings which helped researchers obtain funding for their various projects. Norm understood and recognized the need to provide input from a patient & member of the community in order to help the general public potentially receive better healthcare. Norm was a very sweet person who will be truly missed. My thoughts & prayers to his family.
