A Tribute to Hulbert Donald Lynn
"The consciousness of loving and being loved brings a warmth and richness to life that nothing else can bring." - Oscar Wilde
Hulbert Donald Lynn, affectionately known as "Duck" and "Uncle Don," age 77, of
Waxahachie, Texas, peacefully transitioned on January 20, 2026, surrounded by his wife and extended family.
Don was born on January 27, 1948, in Forreston, Texas, to Margaret Adam Lynn and Hulbert Vincent Lynn, both of whom preceded him in death. He was raised in Forreston and attended Forreston High School, where he was a valedictorian and a proud member of the basketball team. His family loved sharing the story of that memorable state championship run, including the moment Don missed the three point shot that would have sealed the win, a story that became part of Lynn family lore and always came with a laugh.
Don proudly served in the National Guard, including airborne training during the Vietnam era. He built a life grounded in faith, family, work ethic, community, and humor, and he carried those values into everything he did.
Don dedicated many years to the trucking industry. He drove for Coca Cola and the Miller High Life Beer Company, later becoming an owner operator. He eventually took over his brother's business, I Buy Trucks, where he became known for his sharp eye, strong negotiation skills, and no-nonsense way of handling business. Don took pride in his work and was respected for his leadership, communication, dependability, and the way he did not let anyone run over him.
Outside of work, Don loved what made him feel free: trucks, boating, fishing, and jet skis. He had a special gift for humor and storytelling, and he could keep a room laughing without even trying.
Don was a devoted husband who deeply loved his wife, Sheila Ann Lynn. They were united in marriage on October 11, 2008, and he remained attentive and committed to her throughout their life together. Those closest to him will remember his laughter, his wisdom, his strong opinions, and the way he showed up for the people he loved. His favorite saying was: "Git it done."
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret Adam Lynn and Hulbert Vincent Lynn, and his brother, Charles Lynn.
He is survived by and leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife, Sheila Ann Lynn; his daughter, Carissa Lynn; his grandson, Torin Miller; his nephews, Charlie and James Lynn; his niece, Sherry Odom; a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins; his sister and brother-in-law, Baffour Otchere and Dr. Tonette Otchere of Cincinnati, Ohio; his niece, Alexia Otchere; his sister-in-law, Margaret Carter of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; the Mecca family od Dallas, Texas; and a wide circle of family and friends.
