Martin “Marty” James Walraven, 68, of Newport, North Carolina, passed away on Sunday, June 15, 2025, following a single vehicle accident in Newport.
A celebration of Marty’s life will be held from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., on Saturday, June 21st at the VFW Post 8986, located at 1316 Hibbs Road in Newport.
Marty was born on November 22, 1956, in Chicago, Illinois. From a young age, he had a fascination for cars, which led him to pursue a fulfilling career as a skilled mechanic. He found joy in the open road, with motorcycle riding being one of his favorite pastimes.
Marty will be fondly remembered as a loving husband of 30 years, an exceptional father, and a proud grandfather, whose love and dedication to his family and friends will be greatly missed.
Those remaining to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Shelli Walraven; daughter, Linda Henriksen of Burnsville, MN, Toni Walraven of Murphysboro, IL, and Cori Dannette Walraven of Murphysboro, IL; sons, Paul Henriksen of Dallas, TX, Michael Walraven (Lauren) of Jacksonville, FL, and Joshua Yarbrough (Ashlea) of Kansas City, KS; sisters, Yvonne Kennedy (Jack) of New Lenox, IL and Kathy Weaver (Mike) of Tampa, FL; brother, Larry Walraven of Tampa, FL; several nieces and nephews; numerous grandchildren; and a few great-grandchildren.
Marty was preceded in death by his father, Robert Walraven; mother and stepfather, Helen and Ludwig Henniges; sister, Christine Walraven; and brother, Bobby Henniges.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Carteret County Humane Society, 853 Hibbs Rd., Newport, NC 28570.
