James "Buddy" Anderson Ware, Jr. passed away on July 10, 2026, in Selma, Texas, leaving behind a legacy of love, service, and unforgettable spirit. Born on August 26, 1963, in Alice, Texas, Buddy’s life was a tapestry woven with dedication to his family, friends, passions, and country.

Buddy’s early years began in Alice, Texas, where he cultivated deep family roots and built lasting friendships. He graduated from Alice High School in 1981. Buddy continued his education at South West Texas University, where he grew into a young man ready to serve something greater than himself.

Buddy answered the call to serve his nation by joining the United States Army. Stationed at Fort Hood, he proudly served as a tanker and became a decorated soldier. His time in the military was marked by courage and a bond with fellow soldiers that would remain close to his heart for the rest of his life.

Faith was a guiding light for Buddy. As a Baptist, he approached the world with kindness, conviction, and a deep sense of purpose. Those who knew him will remember his infectious enthusiasm for life, his love for riding his Harley, the excitement he found as a gun enthusiast, and the joy he embraced as a HAM radio operator. Yet, perhaps above all, Buddy cherished the moments spent with family.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Kelley, whose partnership brought him much happiness and friendship. His step-daughter, Lauren, held a special place in his heart, together creating new memories and sharing life’s simple joys. Buddy also leaves behind his brother-in-law, Scott and sister-in-law Melissa, as well as many cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews who will cherish every memory made with him. Buddy’s compassion extended to his four-legged companions as well; he is also survived by Missy Mae, Teddy, Rocky, and Woody, all of whom provided loyal companionship and comfort.

Buddy was preceded in death by his father, James Anderson Ware, Sr.; his mother, Alba Mae Ware; and his loving grandparents. Also many loving pets, especially Rascal Man, Sugar Puppy and Penny Pop have also gone before him, ensuring he is surrounded by love on both sides of life’s threshold.

Family and friends are invited to remember and honor Buddy’s life at Schertz Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on July 20, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and again on July 21, 2026 at 11:00 AM. The Funeral Service will follow at 12:00 PM, with a Graveside Service at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, Shelter 2, at 2:15 PM.

Though James "Buddy" Anderson Ware, Jr. has departed from this world, his memory will live on in the hearts of all who loved him and in the countless lives he touched along the way.
