James Robert Welsh (“Jim”), age 65, passed away peacefully on December 10, 2025, at Houston Hospice House, surrounded by loved ones who traveled from across the country to be with him.
Jim was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Robert Welsh and Mary Jeannette Welsh Moeller. He was the fourth of eight children and the only son—a role he carried with quiet strength, humor, and devotion throughout his life.
After graduating from the University of Iowa, Jim moved to Kansas City to pursue his dreams. He married and welcomed a daughter, and he loved his years living in Prairie Village, Kansas. As his career grew, he later moved to St. Louis and then Dallas, where he spent much of his professional life.
Jim was creative, quirky, quietly humorous, and endlessly capable. There was no project—indoors or outdoors—he couldn’t tackle. He loved his work and deeply valued the people he worked alongside for nearly 20 years. Being the only boy among seven sisters shaped him into a devoted father and an especially proud and loving grandfather to his cherished granddaughter. Though the Welsh family was spread across the country, Jim made every effort to be present, traveling whenever he could to be with those he loved.
Jim was preceded in death by his father Robert Welsh, his mother Mary Jeannette Welsh Moeller, and Fred Moeller.
He is survived by his daughter Margeaux Welsh Knop, son-in-law David Knop, and granddaughter Kennedy Knop; his sisters and brothers-in-law: Mary Welsh; Catherine and William Koziar; Theresa and Kris Owara; Annette and Tom Hedrick; Joanne Welsh; Laurie and Joe Pusateri; and Kristin Welsh. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews: Megan and Danny Ritz; Brian and Jessica Owara; Katy Owara; Matthew Hedrick; Alex Pusateri; Nicholas Pusateri; Anna and Joel Martin; Nadia Pusateri; and William Pusateri, along with several great-nieces and great-nephews.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Ann Catholic Church, 7231 Mission Road, Prairie Village, KS 66208 on Friday, January 16, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. The service will be simulcast at https://Stannpv.org/jimwelsh ; on Line at www.stannpv.org .
