James P. Witt
James P. Witt, known lovingly as "Jim," "Jimmy," "Dad," and "Grandpa," of Oak Harbor, Ohio, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2025, in the compassionate care of Genoa Care Center after a courageous and lengthy battle with dementia. He was 80 years old.
Born on September 8, 1944, in Port Clinton, Ohio, Jim was the son of Elmer and Anna (Fick) Witt. He attended Oak Harbor High School and proudly earned his GED before enlisting in the United States Army, where he served with honor.
In his early years, Jim delivered newspapers and set up bowling pins. He worked on the assembly line at Whirlpool in Clyde before finding his true calling as an ironworker with Local 55-where he was proud to help build the structures that supported his community.
On April 5, 1968, Jim married the love of his life, Ann Pierce, at Clay Center Presbyterian Church. Their union was one of deep devotion and unwavering companionship, lasting 57 years. Together, they raised a loving family and traveled all around, creating a lifetime of memories.
Jim was known for his love of country and classic 50s and 60s rock music. He was a proud supporter of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren in their activities. His favorite pastimes included planting flowers and showing off his prized Ford Galaxie Fastback 500. He had a quick wit and a joke for every occasion, often told more than once, but always with a smile.
He enjoyed life's simple pleasures: spaghetti with meat sauce, snitchbrout, KitKats, and peanut butter and banana sandwiches. Above all, he will be remembered for his humor, his kind heart, and his ability to fix just about anything-whether it was a machine or a moment.
Jim is survived by his devoted wife, Ann; his children, Vicki Witt and James (Ilene Braxton) Witt; grandchildren, Thomas (Melissa) Witt, Matthew (Christy) Witt, and Jacqueline Witt; great-grandchildren, Peytonn, Oaklley, and Marilynn; and many loving nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Melvin Fick and Robert Witt; and his sisters, Helen Hillman and infant Janet Witt.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during visitation on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at Robinson-Walker Funeral Home, 165 E. Water Street, Oak Harbor, Ohio. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, also at the funeral home, with an additional hour of visitation prior to the service. Interment will follow at Salem Township Union Cemetery. A bereavement luncheon will be held at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 122 W. Ottawa Street, Oak Harbor, Ohio, following the burial.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the
Alzheimer's Association in Jim's honor, so that others may benefit from continued care, research, and support.
