James Vernon Woody was the second of four children born to the late Ernest and Jewell Woody. He came into this world on April 9, 1937, in
Ratcliff, Arkansas and went home on January 26, 2026. He was preceded in death by his younger brother, Danny, in 2016, and his wife of over 63 years, Nancy, in 2022.
Vernon is survived by sons: David Woody and wife Kim (
Mansfield, TX), and Bruce Woody and wife Rebecca (
Farmersville, TX); brother: Clyde Woody (
Norman, OK); sister: Gay Robles (
Bonanza, AR); granddaughters: Jessica Smith and husband Kyle (
Wylie, TX), Rachel Newell and husband Shawn (
Fairview, TX), Amy Dilday and husband John (
Arlington, TX), and Valerie Siebert and husband Austin (
Waterloo, IL); four great-grandsons; three great-granddaughters; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins who will all miss Vernon dearly.
Vernon and Nancy were married in June 1958. Early in their marriage, he served with the Army National Guards of both Arkansas and Tennessee. During his lifetime, Vernon worked for F. W. Woolworth, 24 years for T. G. & Y., mostly based in the
Bossier City, LA area, Ace Hardware in
Dallas, TX and 19 years as owner, with wife Nancy, of a Kwik Kopy franchise in
Garland, TX. After retirement, he worked part time driving funeral coaches and limousines for 9½ years assisting with almost 2000 funerals.
The family is deeply grateful to the staff of The Oaks at Liberty Grove for providing a place for Vernon to interact and develop friendships with other seniors and for their care and support for him during his final years.
Funeral services are to be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, beginning at 10:00 am in The Reflections Chapel at Rest Haven Funeral Home - Rockwall location. Interment will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Park. A gathering of friends, family and loved ones will take place Friday evening, February 6, 2026, from 6-8pm at Rest Haven Funeral Home.
