James Yurgil, 89, of Dixon, IL, passed away on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at his home surrounded by his family. He worked many years as an Operating Engineer for IUOE Local 150.
James was born on June 8, 1936, in Chicago, IL, the son of Anton and Theresa (Kalicki) Yurgil. He married Emily Wrobel on January 17, 1959, in Westmont, IL. They shared 66 wonderful years together and countless memories. James proudly served in the United States Army. He enjoyed traveling with Emily, camping with his family, snowmobiling, and mowing his yard. James truly could fix or build just about anything - he enjoyed working on old cars and restoring different types of tractors. James, a proud "Yooper", loved spending time at his favorite place - the family cabin on Billy Good Lake in Michigan. Above all, he truly loved and cherished time with his grandkids, who, by the way, each had their very own personal nickname he gave them. His memory will live on through those who love him.
James is survived by his wife of 66 years, Emily Yurgil; his children, Anthony (Donna) Yurgil, James R. (Joann) Yurgil, Cindy (Chuck) Schmidt, Wendy (Michael) Kostrzewa; and seven grandchildren, Daniel Mederer, John Yurgil, Sam Yurgil, Natalie Yurgil, Benjamin (Michelle) Schmidt, Tyler (Kasia) Schmidt, Casey Kostrzewa.
James was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Robert (Jean) Yurgil.
A Celebration of James' Life will take place at a later date. Cremation Rites have been accorded. Per the family's request, it is kindly asked that no donations be made or flowers be sent. Thank you in advance.
Arrangements were completed by Preston-Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon.
