Janice Dianne McPhail was born on January 20, 1958, in Jackson, Mississippi to Cecil A. and Bobbie Williams Thurman. A graduate of New Hebron High School, Jan's life was a testament to resilience and positivity. Despite facing significant challenges from a debilitating injury many years ago, she transformed her struggles into a powerful testimony of hope and inspiration. She defined "lady" in every sense of the word and was the epitome of grace and dignity while encouraging others through her own journey.
As a dedicated homemaker, Jan embraced her role with warmth and compassion. She was not only a source of love and support for her family but also a compassionate friend and confidante to many. With her generous heart, Jan kept in constant contact with others, always checking on their well-being and providing comfort during difficult times. Her selflessness and empathy defined her interactions, earning her the admiration and gratitude of the many lives she touched.
Jan was a woman of many talents. In her younger years, she enjoyed painting and created beautiful artwork that reflected her vibrant spirit. Her love for nature was evident in her beautiful garden. She spent many happy hours nurturing her flowers and working in her yard, overcoming the challenges that others would call impossible. Known for her fabulous cooking, especially her spaghetti, she loved for people to gather around her table.
Jan will also be remembered as a beacon of positivity, often described as a therapist by those who sought her compassionate ear. Her ability to uplift spirits and inspire those around her has left an indelible mark in the hearts of many that will not soon be forgotten. Jan was a member of Shalom Baptist Church.
Mrs. McPhail is preceded in death by her father, Cecil A. Thurman.
Her memory will live on in the hearts of those she loved most including her husband, Keith McPhail of New Hebron; stepdaughter, Sarah Lucas (Rickey) of Sumrall; her mother, Bobbie Thurman of New Hebron; sisters, Donna Nuckles (Sambo) of New Hebron, Brenda Stephens (Gregg) of Silver Creek; her brother, Mickey Thurman (Dwanna) of Lone Star; and her grandson Laithan Doherty.
