Mrs. Janis "Jan" Sumner Saunders, 77, of Sparks, GA but Hahira the last 5 years passed away Monday, September 15, 2025, at her residence, surrounded by her family. Her funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, September 20, 2025, in the Chapel of Boone Funeral Home with the Rev. Jimmy Parker officiating.

Born July 27, 1948, in Tifton, Mrs. Saunders was the daughter of the late Steve Sumner and Louise Nipper Sumner.

She was a retired educator teaching in Cook County for over 30 years. She was a member of the Alpha Delta Kappa Teachers Sorority and the Cook County Retired Teachers Association. In addition, Jan was an avid bridge player, serving as the Club Manager for both the Valdosta and Tifton Duplicate Bridge Associations.

Mrs. Saunders is survived by her husband of 57 years Ken Saunders of Hahira, one brother and sister-in-law Bill and Carol Ann Lindsey of Macon; one sister and brother-in-law Marthi and Peter Munson of Bluffton, South Carolina, two sons and daughters-in-law, Eric and Danielle Saunders of Valdosta, Glenn and Erin Saunders of Ponte Vedra, FL; one daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and Jonathan Rogers of Peachtree City; six grandchildren, Mackenzie, Gehrig and Brooks Rogers; Wilkes, Pearson and Lochlyn Saunders.

Jan was a remarkable woman who touched many lives as a teacher and a caring mother. Jan was loved by all who knew her. She will be greatly missed by her loving husband, children and grandchildren and countless others.

*The family will host a Celebration of Life at The Parrish House (1401 S. Hutchinson Ave.; Adel, GA 31620) following the service.*
