Jana L. Pivacek, 61, of Granby, beloved wife of Lawrence E. Cole, passed away peacefully with her husband by her side on Friday, December 28, 2012 at her home. Born in Elyria, OH, daughter of Daisy and the late William Pivacek, she lived in New York City before moving to Granby 21 years ago. Jana graduated from Ball State University, and received her master's degree in Vocal Performance Oberlin University. She was a voice teacher in New York City, in France and Granby. An active member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Tariffville, she was in charge of the children's choir, taught women's Bible study, was a member of the healing prayer ministry, and helped at Vacation Bible School, and was active with the Sunday afternoon services at Meadowbrook Nursing Home for many years. She was the director and taught voice lessons to the other members of the Tapestry Singers, which held benefit concerts at many churches and schools in the Granby area. The Tapestry Singers held many benefit concerts at Trinity Episcopal Church to benefit Kateri Medical Clinic in the Diocese of Kaduna, Nigeria. The Archbishop of the Diocese on Kaduna on December 2nd honored her at Trinity Episcopal Church for her benefit concerts which helped so many at the Kateri Medical Clinic. Besides her husband Larry, she leaves her mother Daisy and step-father Tony Rich; a sister Laura and her husband Robert Doll of Elyria, OH; several nieces and a nephew and many friends. Her family will receive friends on Friday, January 4th from 3-5 and 6-8 pm at the Hayes-Huling & Carmon Funeral Home, 364 Salmon Brook St., Granby. A Memorial Service to celebrate her life will be held Saturday, January 5th at 10:30 AM at Trinity Episcopal Church, Tariffville. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Trinity Episcopal Church, Mission Project, Kateri Medical Clinic, 11 Church St., Tariffville, CT 06081 or to the Connecticut Humane Society, 701 Russell Rd., Newington, CT 06111.
