Jane Burns Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Reeb Funeral Home on Oct. 23, 2025.
Jane F. Burns, age 80, of Sylvania, Ohio, passed away peacefully on October 20, 2025, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio Ebeid Center.
Born on October 25, 1944, Jane was raised as an only child in East Liverpool, Ohio. Following her high school graduation as valedictorian, she headed to Boston to attend Tufts University where she graduated magna cum laude with a biology major and chemistry minor. Jane was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi sorority and inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. She worked as a research tech at Pitt Medical School and BFGoodrich Research Center before starting her family.
Jane was a devoted wife, loving mother, and loyal friend. She married her high school sweetheart, Mike, on February 4, 1967, and together they built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. She was the proud mother of Barbara and Amy, who will forever carry her legacy of kindness, strength, and compassion. Her family was the center of her world and she treasured the time they spent together. Jane valued her friendships and made a great effort to keep in touch with those near and far. She and Mike often visited friends as they road tripped throughout the country, particularly enjoying time spent in Tucson, Arizona, each winter.
Those who knew Jane will remember her intelligence, wit, and resilience. She had many hobbies and interests that she fully dedicated herself to. She was an avid reader and a member of several book clubs throughout her life. Jane was an adept bridge player both in her ladies groups and also with Mike as a partner. After completing her first quilt in 1989, she continued to develop her skills and create amazing pieces -- many being award winners. The Quilt Fan-Attics group meeting was a highlight of her week for many years. She also enjoyed needlepoint, knitting, cooking, baking, and playing tennis. Jane volunteered at Crossgates Elementary School while her daughters were students there. More recently she belonged to P.E.O. and was very close with the sisterhood she gained there.
Jane is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Michael Burns; daughters Barbara (Todd) Riggs and Amy (Trey) Siegel; grandchildren Justin, Andrew, Charles, Carlos, Elizabeth, and Henry Riggs; grandchildren AJ and Claire Siegel. She is also survived by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Edward (Kay) Burns, Robert (Kathie) Burns, and Janice Burns; and many nieces and nephews. Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Gordon and Helen (Meyers) Bendheim; in-laws Edward A. Burns and Virginia (James) Davis.
A visitation will be held at Reeb Funeral Home, 5712 Main Street, Sylvania, Ohio on Friday, November 7, 2025, from 11:30 am to 2:00 pm, followed by a short service at 2:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, Jane's wish was for support to be directed to PBS, NPR, or a charity of you choice.
"May this quilt wrap you with never-ending love, just as Jane embraced you in her loving arms."
