Jane M. Carpenter

Jane M. Carpenter, age 73, of Hillsborough, NC, passed away on January 29, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on May 8, 1952, in Durham, Jane was the beloved daughter of the late Clyde and Minnie Hart. She was preceded in death by her brother, Bayman Hart, and her sister, Carolyn LeCates.

Following high school, Jane entered the workforce with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), where she dedicated her career to public service, eventually retiring as a Budget Analyst.

An avid bowler for over 50 years, Jane was a fixture in the local bowling community, from her early days at The Village and Mardi Gras to her final frames at Bowlero. Her competitive spirit took her across the country to compete in National Tournaments in cities such as Las Vegas, El Paso, Baton Rouge, and Tucson. Her crowning achievement came in 2003 at the National Bowling Stadium in Reno, where she was crowned the Division II All-Events Champion.

Beyond the lanes, Jane's true legacy was her devotion to her family. Known affectionately as "Nana" to her grandchildren, she was their most loyal fan. She never missed a game or tournament, always present in the stands or courtside, offering her unwavering support. Her grandchildren were truly her whole world.

Jane is survived by her longtime companion, Mark Matthews; her daughters, Wendy Hyde (Robert) and Kristy Albert (JR); five grandchildren: Ashley (Jordan), Madison, Hunter, Savannah, and Kynlee; and her great-grandchild, Wade, born this past May.

The family will receive family and friends on Friday, February 6, 2026 from 6-8pm at Clements Funeral Home in Durham. A funeral service will be held at Clements Funeral Chapel in Durham on Saturday, February 7th at 11:00am, officiated by her nephew and Senior Pastor, Michael LeCates. Burial will follow at the Maplewood Cemetery.

The family will be gathering at her daughter's (Kristy) home following the burial. The family is being assisted by Clements Funeral Home in Durham, NC. The family would like to thank Orange and Durham County Sheriff's Department, Amedisys Hospice, and Gillis' Catering.
