Jane Davis, 91, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2025, while in the hospital with pneumonia. Her children were with her during her last days, along with the outstanding hospital staff providing her comfort care.

Jane was born December 16, 1933, in Hamburg, Arkansas. She was the only child of Robert Newsome Taylor, Jr. and Willie Mae Morgan Taylor Thompson. Growing up in a small town, she was surrounded by grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins who taught her the importance of family, a value she cherished throughout her life and passed on to her family and those who knew her.

In the seventh grade, she moved to New Orleans and then later to Baton Rouge, before calling Shreveport home during her high school years. She graduated from C. E. Byrd High School in 1951. While attending a dance in her senior year, she tapped a handsome young man on the shoulder in a case of alleged mistaken identity and met Glenn Davis. This encounter led to their marriage in the summer of 1951. This loving marriage was full and joyous for more than 69 years. Their marriage was celebrated and admired by family and friends. The children of this marriage are most grateful that they met. They consider themselves to be among the luckiest people in the world to have had these two incredible parents.

Jane loved being a mother and raising her children. She enjoyed taking them to different places, traveling, and camping and back to Hamburg to get to know their relatives. She made sure everyone knew who her children were. She was proud of her children and always made it known. In later years, she could often be heard saying how much she “loved it when we were all together” .

During her children’s school years, she served in and around their schools. She served as a crossing guard, school secretary, and President of the PTA. Later she worked in administrative jobs at Riley-Beaird and Boots Pharmaceutical. It did not matter if it was work, cooking, sewing, crocheting, ceramics, class reunions, poetry, crossword puzzles, making friends or planning get togethers, Jane worked hard and excelled at what she did. For many years she faithfully walked five miles a day with her neighbors and attended Sunday school class at Summer Grove Baptist Church.

Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Davis. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Glenda Vaughn (Jack), Glenn “Rusty” Davis (Tina), and Mark Davis (Annette); grandchildren, Jason Holland, Krystal Davis, Robert Davis, and three step-grandchildren; great-grandchildren, Wyatt Holland, Khloe Holland, and five step-great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Kay Hurdle; niece, Lisa Rash and great-nephews along with countless friends. Although Jane’s long life here on earth has ended, she is on an earned eternal journey with her Lord and is reunited with her loved ones. It is easy for us who knew her to say that we are thankful to have been a part of her time on earth. She loved deeply and was much loved and will be greatly missed.

A memorial service will be held at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2500 Southside Dr., Shreveport, Louisiana, on Wednesday, November 26, 2025. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. with the service beginning at 2:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Summer Grove Baptist Church or to the charitable organization of your choice.
