Jane Rae (Thomas) Funk, 84, of New Albany passed away peacefully on November 12, 2025. She will be remembered as a devoted and caring wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
Jane was born on May 26, 1941, to Robert M. and Margaret G. (Marshall) Thomas. The youngest of four children, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Robert L., Bennie L., and Carl H.
She was raised in Crandall, Indiana. It was there that she met the love of her life, Larry A. Funk, who she married on May 25, 1957. For the next 64 years, they devoted their lives to each other until Larry’s passing. Together they raised two sons, Lynn Funk (Vicky) and Jim Funk (Sylvia). Jane was a proud and loving grandmother to Kaitlyn Titzer (Tim), Jennifer Balasko (Peyton), and Brian Funk (Kate), and a doting great-grandmother to five wonderful great-grandchildren: Marlo, Eleanor, Benjamin, Riley and Jonah. Time spent with them was her greatest joy.
Jane worked her entire career at New Albany- Floyd County Schools. Her kindness and steady presence touched many children's lives. When not working, she loved reading, crocheting, quilting, card games, baking and IU basketball. After retirement, Jane and Larry moved to Savannah Gardens. There, Jane formed many treasured friendships with kind and caring neighbors who became like family to her. She looked forward to the Friday card games and shows at the local theater.
