Obituary of Jane Virginia Gabbie
Jane Virginia Huie Gabbie, Born Dec 8, 1918, in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, to William Locke Huie and Olive Elizabeth (Rowley) Huie, died peacefully with family by her side on January 6, 2022. She married Henry Grady Gabbie, Jr. in Arkadelphia, AR June 9, 1940. She had two children, F. Janise Gabbie Fitzpatrick, wife of W. Daniel Fitzpatrick of Belchertown, MA and Henry Grady (Rick) Gabbie III now of Bogota, Columbia. She leaves three Grandchildren, William H. Fitzpatrick with his wife Cassie of Belchertown, MA, Kimberly Ann Fitzpatrick with friend Jim Jackson of Springfield, MA, and Brian J. Fitzpatrick with his wife Kathleen of Lunenburg, MA, and Great grandchildren Brendan Fitzpatrick, Deirdre Fitzpatrick Savoie with her husband Cam, Sinead Fitzpatrick, Shealeigh and James Martin and Declan Fitzpatrick.
After college she taught school for many years. She and Henry moved to Corpus Christie, TX. In 1950, they moved to Puerto La Cruz, Venezuela following her husband's career, where she also taught school for many years. In 1980 she and her husband joined daughter Janise and family in Belchertown. Having lived their lives in warm climes, they moved to Pt. St. Lucie, FL in 1983, but returned to Belchertown in 1990. Husband Henry predeceased her in 1995. Jane continued to live in Belchertown, on Tucker Lane. She was an active member and a Decan of the Belchertown United Church of Christ (BUCC). Always an avid (and competitive) bridge player, she taught and played bridge with great enthusiasm at the Belchertown Senior Center until after she turned 100. She will be long remembered for her southern accent and her joy in everything that she shared wherever she went. A friend captured that spirit when she wrote, "She was always so happy and kind which made us always be in a better mood when we saw her. We love her and will miss her."
