Crouch Funeral Home, P.A.Jane Hopman, 88 of Elkton MD, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend passed away on Sunday, November 30, 2025.
She was born on August 18, 1937, in Holland, the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth (Van Der Ven) Meyer. She came to America with Gerrit in 1956 after they married on July 3, 1955.
Jane will forever be remembered for her gentle spirit and unwavering dedication to her family and community. As a devoted school bus driver for Cecil County Public Schools, she touched the lives of countless children, singing songs and ensuring their safety and comfort as they traveled to and from school. Her nurturing nature extended beyond her profession, as she was a cherished member of the First Baptist Church of North East, where she shared her faith and kindness with all.
A talented craftswoman,and once owned TJ Crafts, Jane found joy in knitting and crocheting, creating beautiful items that showcased her artistic flair. She had a special talent for making pottery and ceramics, and her friends and family will always treasure her unique creations. Jane was also renowned for her delicious peach jam, a delight that brought warmth and sweetness to gatherings.
Jane leaves behind an enduring legacy of love. She is survived by her devoted husband of 70 years , Gerrit Hopman; her sons: Arthur Hopman (Rebecca) of Elk Neck, MD, Gerry Hopman (Linda) of Palm Harbor, FL, David Hopman (Lori) of Newark, DE, Donald Hopman (Kimberly) of Elkton, MD, and Ken Hopman (Angel) of Wilkesboro, NC; her daughter, Lora Beaudett (Park) of Sudlersville, MD; her sister, Sue Hamilton (Ray) of Marshfield, MO; as well as her thirteen grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren, each of whom will carry her spirit in their hearts.
The family will host a public viewing for friends and loved ones to pay their respects at Crouch Funeral Home P.A., 127 South Main Street, North East, MD, on Thursday, December 18, 2025, beginning at 10:00 AM. A funeral service celebrating Jane's life will follow at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow the service at North East Methodist Cemetery, North East, MD.
In this time of grief, we honor the life of Jane Hopman-a remarkable woman whose impact on those around her will remain forever cherished. May she rest in eternal peace.
