Jane Hush Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Kelley & Spalding Funeral Home & Crematory on Sep. 9, 2025.
Jane Eleanor Hush (née Parker) passed away peacefully on September 9, 2025 at her home in Lake Forest, following a long illness. She was 85 years old. She is survived by her husband Howard, her daughter Laura, her son Andrew, her son-in-law Jordy, and her daughter-in-law Gina.

Jane was warm and vibrant with a talent for putting people at ease. She was known for her outgoing personality and bright spirit.

She was a talented and versatile artist who worked in many mediums-beading, macrame, knitting, embroidery, cross stitch, decoupage, sewing, furniture building, bread baking, and photography. Her creative true love, however, was pottery. She developed a technique for using antique lace to pattern her pottery, creating an elegant and instantly recognizable style. She enjoyed sharing her pottery with family, friends, and the people she met at art shows.

Jane was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of Mary Warner Parker and Dr. Robert Frederick Parker. As a child, she asked her mother to enroll her in art classes as often as she could, an early start to a lifetime of producing beautiful art.

She earned an undergraduate degree in religious studies at Oberlin College and a Master's degree in library science from Western Reserve University.

While attending Oberlin, she joined the bridge club, hoping to catch the eye of a particular bridge player, Howard Hush. The ploy worked; she and Howard married on June 20, 1964. They settled in the northern suburbs of Chicago, where Jane became a stay-at-home mother, artist, and community volunteer. She also became a skilled bridge player and enjoyed a lifelong love of the game.

She made significant contributions to the Deerfield branch of the American Association of University Women, and was involved with the League of Women Voters, her churches, prayer groups, book groups, and groups of friends. She loved to sing in the church choir and enjoyed listening to classical music.

A celebration of her life will be held at St. Gregory's Episcopal Church in Deerfield on September 27 at 11:00 a.m. A reception at the church will follow. All are welcome.

The family thanks the staff at Lake Forest Place and Journey Care Hospice for their kind and compassionate care.

The family requests that any donations in her name be made to the Deerfield branch of the American Association of University Women.
