Jane Killingsworth Logee

Jane Logee was born on June 16, 1928, at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Her parents were Richard Dewey Killingsworth and Billie (Willie B.) Crawford Killingsworth. The family moved to Fort Worth when she was a baby, and she grew up in nearby Birdville, graduating from Birdville High School and then Harris College of Nursing in Fort Worth.
She was married to William Hillyard Logee in 1949, and pursued her nursing career in Graham, Texas, in Chicago, in Fort Worth hospitals and at the Fifth Avenue Clinic in that city before the family moved to Paris, Texas in 1955.
As a young mother of 4, Jane worked part-time at the old Sanitarium Hospital, St. Joseph's Hospital, and in the Medical Department at Campbell Soup, Paris, Texas. She later became a nursing instructor at Paris Junior College, a position she held until her retirement. She also served as Executive Director of the Paris YWCA, helping them to obtain their national charter, and to secure and renovate their building on North Main.
Jane was very active in the First United Methodist Church of Paris, serving for over forty years as a Sunday school teacher. She was the first president of the United Methodist Women at the church, and she chaired numerous church committees over the years. In retirement Jane designed and made a series of fourteen large banners which are still used in the sanctuary during worship.
She had a lifelong love of music and sang in the church choir from childhood on. Jane also belonged to the Moderne Music Club in Paris, and could be seen playing the ukelele, violin, and entertaining, even into her 90's. She had an amazing memory for just about every song lyric, and she and her husband made sure their family was brought up with music all around.
Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. William Logee, and their daughter, Sally Logee Neel of Pagosa Springs, CO. She is survived by three children: Dwight Logee and wife Vicki, of Garland, Richard Logee and wife Janie, of Paris, and Susie Logee Dale and husband Greg, of Dallas. There are five grandchildren: Nate Logee, Alaina Logee Downing, Robert Neel, Merrion Dale Frederick, Madeleine Dale Derryberry, and five step-grandchildren, Katherine Williams, Charles Neel, Rob Gilliland and family, Rick Gilliland and family, and James Gilliland and family.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 4th at 10:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Paris. A private burial service was held December 23rd at Evergreen Cemetery, Paris.
Memorial gifts may be made to the First United Methodist Church, Paris for the Choir program or the Altar Guild.
The family would like to thank Jane's many friends at Colonial Retirement Lodge in Paris and her caregivers at Mustang Creek Assisted Living and Prim Hospice Care in Sachse, Texas.
Jane Logee left a legacy of love and creativity and service, and many will join her family in celebrating her memory, remembering her as a woman of substance, of faith and of courage.
