Jane Lundgren Obituary

Published by Legacy on Nov. 10, 2025.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jane Lundgren, who left this world peacefully on September 25, 2025, at the age of 88. Born on March 1, 1937, in Fairmont, Minnesota, Jane lived a remarkable life filled with love, compassion, and dedication to her profession and her family.
Jane was a devoted mother to her three sons, David (Leah), Richard (Lisa), and James, who were the center of her universe. She found immense joy in being a grandmother to her grandchildren, Jordan, Kirsten, and Andrew, and in being a great-grandmother to Faith, Riley, Bailey, Liam, and Max. Her family was her pride and joy, and she cherished every moment spent with them.
After graduating from St. Barnabas School of Nursing in Minneapolis in 1957, Jane embarked on a successful nursing career that spanned over four decades. She worked as a Registered Nurse, Staff Coordinator, and Nurse Clinician at various hospitals in the Twin Cities, including St. Barnabas (The Swedish Hospital), Metropolitan Medical Center, North Memorial, Divine Redeemer, Abbott Northwestern and University of Minnesota Hospital and Clinics. Her expertise in nursing led her to become a A Certified Critical Care Registered Nurse, and a Certified Neurosurgical Registered Nurse, a title she held from 1985 to 2000. In 1986, she edited the textbook "Acute Neuroscience Nursing: Concepts and Care," a testament to her commitment to advancing the field of nursing. Throughout her career, Jane presented at numerous national and international conferences, earning her recognition in "The Who's Who of US Nursing" in 1983.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Jane was deeply involved in her community. She served on the Hale Elementary PTA from the late 1960s to the early 1970s, where she played a significant role in pairing Hale and Field schools and was instrumental in establishing the first vision and hearing screening program in Minneapolis Public Schools in 1971. Jane also served on the Alumni Board of Metropolitan State University from 1979 to 1983, staying connected to her academic roots and supporting future generations.
Jane was not only a caregiver by profession but also a fierce advocate for the less fortunate. She was known for her unwavering dedication to those who often went unheard, embodying compassion in every facet of her life. Her friends and family will remember her as a loving and skilled caregiver, a dedicated friend, and a passionate supporter of her community.
In her free time, Jane pursued hobbies that brought her joy, including painting, ceramics, antique collecting and restoration, and collecting antique dolls. However, her greatest passions always lay in her family, and she found immense fulfillment in nurturing her children's and grandchildren's dreams.
Jane is preceded in death by her mother, Ethel (Brewster) Medhus, and her father, Selmer Medhus. She leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and kindness that will continue to inspire those she touched throughout her life.
A celebration of life is planned, with the date and location to be determined. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Our Lady of Peace Hospice in St. Paul, Minnesota, and Heifer International, organizations that reflect Jane's caring spirit.
Jane Lundgren will be sorely missed but fondly remembered for her unwavering love, her advocacy, and her deep commitment to family and community. May she rest in peace.
