Jane McFarland Obituary

Jane Christine McFarland, 15 years old of Mountain Green Utah, passed away on March 7 at home. She was born May 27, 2010 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, to Jennie and Jared McFarland. Jane grew up briefly in Colorado, but mostly in Mountain Green, Utah.

Growing up with older brothers and sisters Jane always wanted to be part of the group and do whatever they were doing. Her siblings were her greatest friends and she was glad to welcome extra siblings when each of her siblings got married.

Jane quickly learned to ski, ride a bike and any other outdoor activity she could try. Camping and being outside was always something she enjoyed. Her love of the outdoors grew as she joined the Snowbasin ski team and learned to ski about anywhere on the mountain. Recently she enjoyed skiing with her family, showing them all how to do new tricks. Mountain biking was her summer fun where she enjoyed flying down the hills with her friends. When Jane was about 10 years old, she decided that she wanted to go hunting with her older brothers. She loved the time camping, hiking, and mostly eating snacks like Hi-Chews and Skittles. After finishing hunter's education, she went on several hunts including a backcountry hike to hunt for elk. She currently holds her family's farthest successful shot at 575 yards in which she killed a four-point elk. She then got the fun experience of hiking and packing out the meat. ?

As Jane started to grow, she found that she loved to draw and sketch almost anything she could see. This love continued to grow as she learned the joy of new techniques and mediums. She placed some of her artwork, crafts and photographs in the fair and won many blue ribbons. Learning from her mother and Grandmothers Christine and Lorie she enjoyed sewing and making many items ranging from blankets, coats, dresses, bags and her favorite plushies.

Jane was a sophomore at Morgan High School where she was a member of the FFA, Rodeo Club, and Mountain Bike team. She also enjoyed being in the Newsies play and was looking forward to doing more plays. In FFA, she really enjoyed learning about cows and animals. Her goal was to be a Veterinarian someday. She was enrolled in a Veterinary assistant class and was trying to get an internship for this summer. She planned to go to Utah State and to get as many of her friends as possible to go with her.

Jane loved to help people learn and enjoy the outdoors. She recently was employed with Scouts of America as a counselor at Camp Tracey. There she worked as a Life Guard and archery instructor. She enjoyed it and was interested in going to the World Scout Jamboree in Poland.

Jane is survived by her parents, Jennie and Jared McFarland; her siblings, Maya Kohler (Carson), Alex McFarland (Taysia), Jaxson McFarland (Karli), and Isabel Canfield (Corbin); her three precious nieces, June and Indy Kohler and Ruby McFarland; and her grandparents, Kim and Lorie Walters and Tom and Christine McFarland. She was preceded in death by her brother, Mason McFarland.

A Celebration of Life will be held on March 13th at 6:00 p.m. at 5378 West Old Highway Road in Mountain Green, Utah.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to friends, family, and the community for their kindness and support during this time.
