It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Jane Christine Meisner, a beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend, who departed this world on July 6, 2025, at Riverside Post Acute Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida, after a long battle with end-stage dementia.
Born on April 9, 1935, Jane was the cherished daughter of Albert and Christine Scheer. She grew up in a loving household that instilled in her the values of kindness, hard work, and creativity. Jane's early years were filled with laughter, music, and the warmth of family, values she carried with her throughout her life.
Jane's educational journey led her to Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, Massachusetts, where she pursued her passion for learning. This foundation propelled her into a diverse career that included roles at Sealtest Dairy, Bell Telephone, Shawmut Bank, Avon, the Virginia Employment Commission, Nissan Corporation, and Sears Department Store. Regardless of where her professional life took her, Jane approached every endeavor with dedication and a smile.
A devoted family woman, Jane is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, John Meisner of Jacksonville, Florida. Together, they built a life filled with love and support. Jane's legacy continues through her three beloved children: Andrew Meisner and wife Mistie Cato Meisner of Ruther Glen, Virginia; David Meisner and wife Deborah Halfpenny Meisner of Fredericksburg, Virginia; and Nancy Meisner Graves and husband Donald Graves of Great Falls, Virginia. Her nurturing spirit will be fondly remembered by her granddaughters, Jennifer Chandra (Avi Chandra) and Kerry Rice (Matt Rice) who brought her immense joy. Jane was also a great grandmother to Alex Chandra. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Scheer and Christine Holler Scheer, and her sister Alberta Scheer Cousins.
Jane's familial bonds extended beyond her immediate family. She was a loving twin sister to Jean Scheer Southall of Sandwich, Massachusetts; Robert Scheer, his wife Sandy of Franklin, Pennsylvania and held dear relationships with her nephews and nieces, including Sharon Southall of Laconia, New Hampshire, and Doug, Lisa, and Lucas Southall of Hanover, Massachusetts. She also enjoyed visits with her brother Robert's extended family while living in northwestern Pennsylvania in her retirement, including Sandi Young of Franklin, Pennsylvania. The love she shared with her extended family was a testament to her nurturing nature.
Throughout her life, Jane embraced a variety of hobbies and interests that enriched her spirit. She found joy in oil painting, transforming blank canvases into vibrant expressions of her creativity. Her love for gardening allowed her to nurture life and beauty, while her passion for dogs brought loyal companionship into her home. Jane's culinary skills were celebrated among family and friends, as her kitchen was often filled with the delicious aromas of her lovingly prepared meals, and pies from her peach and apple trees. She also enjoyed sewing, took square dance and ballroom dance lessons, loved music and sang in the church choir.
While Jane's health declined in her later years, her spirit remained vibrant. The compassionate staff at Riverside Post Acute Hospital provided exceptional care, and her family's love surrounded her in her final days.
A funeral service honoring Jane's life will be held on July 12, 2025, at 3:00 PM. Family and friends are invited to join together to celebrate the memory of an extraordinary woman whose love and kindness touched everyone she encountered.
As we remember Jane Christine Meisner, we hold close the lessons she taught us through her actions, the love she shared so freely, her generosity, and the legacy of family that she built with unwavering dedication. Her spirit will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Dearest Jane,
The world lost a kind, gentle soul when you departed, but you touched many lives in a positive, loving way during your time on earth. I have fond memories of your garden in Chesapeake that you painstakingly tended, so many delicious home-cooked meals, and the warmth of the home you created. Part of you lives on in your children and grandchildren. We are all better for having had you in our lives. Rest in comfort and peace.

Grandma,

I have so many memories of you. I used to love playing with your cd player when I was younger and have vivid memories of dancing in your living room. Your love of gardening was so cute to watch. I wish I was half as talented as an artist as you; you had such lovely paintings. Please rest in peace. We love you.

I will miss you so much, Grandma Jane. I am thankful that you are at peace now. I have such fond memories of the loving environment you created. From sharing garden treasures, making fresh jams, and always knowing what species of bird was singing. You were was an excellent artist and I loved watching her paint. I will miss you dearly. We will love you and miss you always.
