Jane Kennedy Murphey, 69, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 7, 2025, surrounded by her husband, children and grandchildren. Visitation is Wednesday, September 10, 2025, from 5:00-8:00 PM at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon. The service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, September 11, 2025, with visitation at 10:00 AM at First Baptist Church Brandon, 309 South College Street.
Jane was a lifelong resident of Brandon, where she developed lasting friendships from school, church, work, and hobbies. She was a member of First Baptist Church, where she was involved in outreach, women’s ministry, children’s ministry, and senior adult ministry. After being diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer in 2011, she considered every day a gift from God. In the midst of her own health battle, she encouraged and served others who also had cancer. She enjoyed Mississippi State sports, concerts, and traveling, and she was particularly proud of having made a trip to Omaha for the College World Series. She cherished her role as Mimi and left a lasting legacy of faith with each of her grandchildren.
Jane is survived by her husband, Charlie Murphey; children, Anna Owens (Brian) and Laura Werne; grandchildren, Ella, Parker and Tate Owens; sister, Jo Hegwood (David), and brothers, Lee Kennedy (Cathy) and Danny Stubbs (Shirley) and multiple nieces and nephews.
She was preceeded in death by her husband, Mike Werne, mother, Mary Frances Kennedy Comfort, father, Dan Henry Kennedy, paternal grandfather, Guy Henry Kennedy, paternal grandmother, Lillie Mae Kennedy, maternal grandfather, Langdon Head, and maternal grandmother, Leola Head.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church Brandon Building Fund or Southside Baptist Church Homeless Ministry.
