Jane Neulieb Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 26, 2026.
Jane Carol (Starr) Neulieb, 75, of Long Beach, Indiana, peacefully passed away at her home surrounded by family on March 18, 2026.

Jane was born on January 29, 1951 in Evergreen Park, Illinois to Thomas and Marilyn Starr. Jane attended grade school at Notre Dame Catholic School, where she was honored to be chosen as May Queen in 1965. She attended St. Mary's High School and graduated from Elston High School in 1969.

While in high school, Jane met the love of her life, Jim Neulieb. They married on April 4, 1972. Jim and Jane built a beautiful life together and raised their daughter Jessica in a happy home full of love and laughter.

Jane graduated from nursing school at Purdue University and proudly cared for countless patients as a registered nurse. Later in her career, Jane also served many families as a hospice nurse.

Jane also had a career in education at Michigan City High School A.K. Smith Career Center teaching Health Careers. Many students have credited Mrs. Neulieb as their inspiration to work hard and pursue their career in all areas of healthcare.

Jane served her community as a Long Beach Town Councilperson for 8 years. During her terms, she proudly represented her fellow neighbors. One of her most notable endeavors was ensuring that access to the beautiful beaches of the state of Indiana remained open to all. In 2013, Jane was awarded the prestigious Frank O'Bannon Sunshine Award which honors an individual, group or organization demonstrating outstanding effort to protect and enhance open government in Indiana. She was honored at a banquet in Indianapolis and presented with the award by the late Judy O'Bannon.

However, Jane's greatest achievement was her family. As a wife and mother, she was generous, loving and kind. She was her daughter Jessica's greatest cheerleader and role model. In 2002, Jane stepped into her favorite role as grandma to her beloved Jake and Molly. Spending time with her grandkids was one of her greatest joys.

Jane loved to care for her beautiful garden, play mah jongg, and travel - especially to sunny tropical destinations. She was a proud member of P.E.O. Sisterhood. Jane participated in local community theater, appearing in productions at Dunes Summer Theater and Footlight Players. Most notably, Jane adored spending a warm sunny day at the beach. You could always find her sitting by the shoreline of Lake Michigan in her beach chair surrounded by friends.

Jane is survived by her husband, Jim Neulieb; daughter, Jessica (Robert) Foos of Indianapolis; sisters, Susan (Kenneth, deceased) Tomaszewski of Lynwood, Illinois and Betsy Starr Swan of Long Beach; grandchildren, Jake and Molly Foos of Indianapolis; many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and much loved nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Marilyn Starr of Long Beach.

A Celebration of Jane's Life will take place on Saturday April 11th at 1-4pm with a sharing of memories at 3pm at the Long Beach Community Center, 2501 Oriole Trail, Long Beach, IN 46360.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Long Beach Community Center or Save The Dunes.

Jane was an inspiration to all who knew her. Never a negative word. Sitting at the beach will always harken the beautiful times we spent together in happy friendship. She will be so missed but always remembered. Barb DePasquale
