Jane Chavis Powell, age 88, of Lawrenceville, VA, passed away Tuesday, December 30, 2025.
The daughter of the late Ira and Ida Chavis, she was widowed by Randolph “Sonny” Roberts and Moses Powell. She was also preceded in death by two granddaughters, Rebecca Lynn Allen and Michelle Roberts; siblings, Joe Chavis, Dudley Chavis, Dorothy Hayes, and Laura Prince.
Jane had a lifelong love for flowers, gardening, and animals of every kind. She was a talented seamstress who brought warmth and intention to everything she created. She loved the Lord and studied His word.
She is survived by her children, Stan Allen and wife, Anna Ruth Batman, Richard D. Allen and wife, Nancy, Jeff D. Allen and wife, Lesia, Carlton E. Allen and wife, Michelle, Carol Roberts and wife, Gloria, Scott Roberts, Kerry Roberts, and Brett Roberts; grandchildren, Wayne Allen, Regina Jones, Kimberly Garner, Thomas Allen, Bethany Stephens, Sarah Lucy, Joshua Allen, Jordan Allen, Macaiah Allen, Naomi Allen, Abigail Allen, Nathanael Allen, Rocky Allen Batman, Miracle Batman, BriAnna Alexanders, Raigen Alexanders, Kacie Roberts, Colton Roberts and Brittney Wideman; great-grandchildren, Camden, Matox, Hunter, Stetson, Kailey, and Hunter; a great-great-grandson, Ezra; sisters, Shirley Ottinger and Margaret “Tiny” Newsome, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Saturday, January 3, 2026 at Williams Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, VA. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Sunday at Cut Banks Baptist Church, 24203 Cutbank Road, McKenney, VA 23872, followed by interment in the church cemetery.
