Dateline: Gastonia Jane Atkinson Rice, 84, of Gastonia died Friday, April 1, 2011 at Peak Resources-Gastonia. She was a native of Cliffside, N.C. and the daughter of the late Frank Atkinson and Inez Hunt Atkinson. Funeral service will be 11 AM Monday, April 4, 2011 in the Founders Chapel of McLean Funeral Directors of Gastonia with Reverend Kelly Lowe officiating. Interment will be in Hollywood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at McLean Funeral Directors of Gastonia from 6 PM until 8 PM, Sunday, April 3, 2011. Mrs. Rice was a member of Covenant United Methodist Church and retired from Firestone Textiles with over 44 years of service. Survivors include her daughters, Carolyn Rice Canup and husband Terry Canup, Suzie Rice Lowe and husband Rev. Kelly Lowe, grandchildren, Jerry Canup, Heather Phillips, April Bradbury, Dana Marie Williams, Kelly Taylor, Blake Williams, 6 great grandchildren, brother, Dean Atkinson and wife Tommie Sue, sisters, Betty Phillips and Jimmie Lou Moss. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Rice, brothers, Lynn "Bud" Atkinson, Joe Atkinson and Ed Atkinson.
