Jane Scharrer

SCHARRER, Jane, age 88, a life long resident of Dayton passed away on Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at the Pavilion, Bethany Village. She was the daughter of Helen (VanAllen) and Albert H. Scharrer. Jane was a graduate of Longfellow Grade School on Salem Avenue, Oakwood High School, and Wheaton College in Norton, MA. She was a founding member of the Dayton Horse Show, which benefited Shawn Acres Children's Home. Jane was also a member of the Dayton Country Club; a supporter and benefactor to the University of Dayton School of Law, where her father taught in the 1920's; a supporter of Dayton History/Carillon Park; and a volunteer at the Humane Society of Greater Dayton. After years of horseback riding, she showed gaited horses. Jane was a competitive player of tennis, paddle tennis, and in high school she started playing bridge. When vacationing in Canada, she and her father would enjoy fly fishing which provided the main course for their meals. Jane was a fan of the Dayton Ducks and the Cincinnati Reds. She was preceded in death by her parents Helen and Albert Scharrer. Jane is survived by cousins in the VanAllen and Scharrer families; her close friends, the MacDonald family; and her beloved companion poodle, Sheri, the last of a line which included a Scottish Terrier, a Weimaraner, and three poodles. A memorial service will be held at 11:00AM on Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering, OH 45429. Rev. John F. Koepke, III, St. Paul's Episcopal Church, will officiate. Private family interment at Woodland Cemetery, Dayton, OH.
