Jane Hill Schermerhorn died in Wilmington, Delaware on December 31, 2010. Born in Philadelphia, PA, she was the daughter of E. Rowland and Irene Scofield Hill. She graduated from the Philadelphia College of Industrial Arts, now known as The University of the Arts, with a degree in Art Education. Mrs. Schermerhorn was an active participant in numerous volunteer charities for many years, including the Delaware Art Museum, Garden Day, Read Aloud Delaware, The Delaware Symphony, and the Junior Board of Christiana Care, having served as a President of the Memorial Junior Board. She was a member of the Wilmington Country Club, Vicmead Hunt Club and Christ Church Christiana Hundred. Mrs. Schermerhorn was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Frederic W. Schermerhorn. She is survived by her two daughters, Suzanne Hill Almen of Wilmington and Sandra Irene Scott of Scituate, MA; three grandchildren, Megan Scott, Brian Scott and Dane Almen; and two nieces, Elizabeth Gallaher of Belmont, MA and Virginia Gaumen of Hilton Head, SC and their children. Her primary interest in life was her beloved family. She was an avid traveler, lover of nature, the New Jersey seashore, and all animals. A memorial service will be held at 11 am on January 29, 2011 in the Chapel of Christ Church, 505 E. Buck Road, Greenville. In lieu of flowers, Jane asked that family and friends remember her with a few moments of meditative reflection.
