Jane Shelow, 83, of Carmi, passed away on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, Indiana. Born on July 6, 1941, in Maunie, Illinois, she was the daughter of Roy and Mabel (Webb) McDaniel. She was a long time member of the New Beginnings Church of God. In October 1966, Jane married Reeder C. Shelow, who lovingly survives her.
Jane had a remarkable talent for needlework and created countless hand-stitched quilts, which she lovingly passed down to her daughters. Her creativity extended to sewing, crocheting, embroidering, and the delicate art of tatting. She also enjoyed time with her “bingo family” as an avid player, as well as playing rummy and Words with Friends with her loved ones.
She and Reeder shared a passion for traveling, especially when it involved camping and fishing adventures. Jane also had a green thumb, tending to her garden and nurturing her cherished flowers. Above all, Jane treasured her family. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her loved ones, creating memories filled with warmth and laughter.
Jane’s legacy of love, creativity, and devotion to her family will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Jane is survived by her husband of 58 years, Reeder; three daughters, Kathy (Frank) Nelson of Carmi, Cindy Stover of Carmi Michelle (Jeff) Allen of Carmi; four siblings, Harold James, Ernest "Dink" James, JoAnn Bryant and Lora Sullivan all of Carmi; 10 grandchildren, Donald Stover, Jr., Holly (Garry) Grisham, Angel D. Stover, Josiah Stover, Chris (Kristen) Pollard, Heather (John) Rice, Katelyn Trefftzs, Colton Shelow, Kyle Buchanan and Brandy Cunningham; 27 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren, She was preceded in death by her parents, two sons, Donnie Stover and Roy D. "Doug" Stover; and three siblings, Wendell McDaniel, Joyce Stinson and Janice James
Funeral services for Jane Shelow, 83, of Carmi will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, December 1, 2024 at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi. Friends may visit on Sunday, December 1, 2024 from 12:00p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi. Private family burial will be in Stokes Chapel Cemetery near Crossville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jane's memory to Coins for Cancer and will be accepted at the funeral home or by mail at 609 W. Main St., Carmi, IL 62821
