Jane Strotman Obituary

Jane Margaret Strotman (née Fairchild, raised as Latta) passed away peacefully on June 25, 2025, at the age of 92. She was surrounded by her devoted husband, Charles "Wes" Strotman and family. Her final moments were filled with love and peace as she went to sleep and entered her heavenly home. Jane was born on April 1, 1933, in Goodman, Wisconsin. She was lovingly raised by her aunt and uncle, Ada and James Latta. She graduated from Mattoon High School in 1950, where she met her lifelong partner, Wes. The two married shortly after graduation and recently celebrated their 74th wedding anniversary on June 22, 2025. After marrying, Jane and Wes began their life together in Illinois, later moving to Missouri where they welcomed their daughter Barbara Wilson, and then to Oklahoma, where they welcomed son James Strotman, and daughter Jackie McCarthy. In 1961, the family relocated to the Washington, D.C. area, and in 1987, they settled in Annapolis, Maryland, where they have lived ever since. Jane worked for the Highway Users Federation in Washington, D.C., beginning in 1961 and continuing until her retirement in 1989. Jane was a dedicated member of National City Christian Church in Washington, D.C., where she served faithfully for over 60 years. She broke barriers as the first woman to serve as Chair of the Board and Vice President of the Foundation. Her contributions to the church and its mission were matched by her gracious spirit and deep faith. Jane will be remembered for her love of travel and reading, her warmth and wisdom, and the joy she found in time spent with family. She was preceded in death by her birth parents, Roberto and Sarah Fairchild, sister, Katherine Jones, and brothers, William, James and John Fairchild and Robert Latta. She is survived by her husband Wes; her children Barbara (Edward) Wilson, James (Karen) Strotman, and Jackie (Milton) McCarthy; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and friends. A memorial will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to National City Christian Church or the National City Christian Church Foundation at 5 Thomas Circle, N.W. Washington, DC 20005.

I´ve known Jane since 1973. I was her Secretary and she was such a caring and great friend. We always went out on our birthdays every year until her health failed. I´ll truly miss Jane. I´m very happy that I got to see her in May. My condolences to Wes and the rest of the family. May God keep His loving arms around all of you.
