Jane Ellen Tompkins died on March 3, 2026, at age 96. She was born on June 13, 1929, to Thomas A. and Nellie P. (Chaney) Allison in Delaware, Ohio.
Growing up, Jane lived in all parts of Delaware County, including Lewis Center, the City of Delaware, and Radnor, where she was a proud high school graduate.
From August 1977 until May 1994, Jane lived in Bradenton, Florida, where she retired as the Executive Secretary at Manatee River Groves, Inc. Prior to that position, she was Secretary to the City Manager of Delaware from 1960-1977, working with Don Mackley for 10 years and then Robert F. Walker for the remaining years of her service to the City of Delaware. She was a member of the National Secretaries' Association.
St. Mark's Lutheran Church was her Christian home where she served as a Sunday School teacher, choir member, substitute pianist, greeter, and Mary Martha Guild member. Up until the day she died, she raved about her church and church family whom she loved very much.
While her children were growing up, Jane was active in the Conger Elementary School PTA, served as a Cub Scout Den Mother and an Assistant Brownie Scout leader. Her family was always her main priority.
Jane enjoyed playing Euchre and belonged to two Euchre Card Clubs. She loved family game nights and was happy whether she lost or won. Laughter was her goal — not winning. Jane loved going to the movies and eating out, especially at Olive Garden, and stopping for ice cream, especially at Whit's in downtown Delaware. Jane adored Elvis Presley, especially his gospel choices, and got to see him live in concert and enjoyed seeing several Elvis impersonators throughout her life.
Jane was dearly loved by all who knew her and had scores of honorary "nieces" and "nephews" who called her "Aunt Jane." Jane's superpower was her ability to love others unconditionally, and people from all walks of life loved her back, trusting her wisdom, calm, grace, and dignity.
Jane was pre-deceased by her parents, her younger sister Dortha "Dot," her niece Diana, her beautiful daughter Nancy Inbody who died many years ago at age 50, and Thomas Wayne, her newborn baby son.
Jane is survived by her son Richard with whom she lived in Marion the last 4 months of her life; granddaughter Amelia (Ben) Green; granddaughter Megan Sterling Sparks (Dan); great grandsons Hunter and Asa Green, and great granddaughter Lillian Olszewski; former daughter-in-law Kate Sterling; former son-in-law Greg Inbody (Patty Hannemon); nieces Faith Ann Cole (Chet); Debbie Bosart (Bob); Vicki Lefevre (Diana Allen); Stephanie Buckingham (Chris); nephews Cory Tompkins and Scott Douglas. Also surviving is Jane's sister-in-law Nancy Tompkins and many wonderful great nieces and nephews who loved her dearly too.
A Memorial Service celebrating the significance of Jane's life will take place, Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at 3 p.m. at the Snyder Funeral Center, Delaware Chapel with Pastor's Craig and Wendy Richter Officiating.

I went with Jane to the Elvis concert. We did not have tickets. We got one ticket from a couple whose daughter couldn't come. We got the other from a 14-year-old "scalper." Im sure he grew up to be very successful! Good memory.

Hello Rick,. A good friend from Delaware let me know of Jane Ellen's passing. A have many good memories with her and Mom over the years in Delaware and Bradenton. She was a very special lady and second cousin. I know you will miss her but think of the great reunion she is having with all the Chaney clan. Sue Rothwell Burdette
