Jane Wikum Obituary

Jane Helen Wikum, passed away on Wednesday, July 24, 2024 at Tamarack Health Hayward Medical Center, Hayward, Wisconsin.

Jane Helen Trappe was born on January 13, 1939, in Madison, Wisconsin to Edward L. and Colleen R. (Kraft) Trappe. Her family later moved to Green Bay, WI where she attended Green Bay East High School. After graduating in the class of 1957, she enrolled at Stevens Point State College. While there she met a handsome Norwegian named Douglas Arnold Wikum. In 1958, after her freshman year, she was named an Alice in Dairyland Princess and married Douglas, the love of her life. They were happily married for 45 years.

Jane showcased her creativity in many ways including through artwork, decorating, sewing, cooking, and even designing some of her own homes. She was an avid reader and enjoyed playing tennis, winning at cards, and watching and supporting the Packers and other Wisconsin sports teams.

Jane served as the only woman on the Dunn County Board of Supervisors beginning in 1980, where for ten years she made significant contributions to improve aging programs in West Central Wisconsin. She was active in her various church homes as a Sunday School teacher, church council member and president, and assistant minister coordinator.

She wrote a monthly inspirational reading and prayer for First Lutheran Church of Hayward's newsletter for nearly 30 years. A longtime member of PEO, she took part in meetings and fundraising events and made many friends.

Jane's greatest pride and joy was her four children, eight grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.

Jane is survived by her children, Karen (Dale) Volkman, Appleton, WI, Kathy (Scott) Ginsbach, Surprise, AZ, Erick (Elizabeth) Wikum, Maineville, OH, and Kristy Wikum, Eden Prairie, MN; her grandchildren, Matthew (Jessica) Volkman, Erin (Jake Moushey) Hagen, Paul (Nicole) Volkman, Hannah Wikum, Sarah Wikum, Joshua Hoepner (partner Emily Murphy), Anders Wikum, and Marissa Hoepner (fiance Graham Teal); four great grandchildren; her sister, Susan (John) Timm, and many dear friends.

Jane is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Douglas; and sister-in-law Diane and her husband Bill Weinstock.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM, on Tuesday, August 6, 2024 at the First Lutheran Church, Hayward, Wisconsin with Pastor Joel Bacon officiating. Visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 until 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Hayward.
