Janie Windham Obituary
Jane (Janie) Neville Windham, 63, of Mobile, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 2, 2022.
Janie was born Jane Neville Parker in Greenville, MS. Janie lovingly devoted her life to her husband, Bob Windham, and two children Caton Windham and Jeffrey Windham. She adored being "Jama" to her two grandsons, Samuel and Tobias Brooks.
Janie served in many areas of her community. She proudly supported the Murphy High School Band by serving as the Treasurer well after both her children graduated. She also volunteered with her husband as the unofficial "Mayors" of the Blacklawn Street Association planning and executing an annual block party for many years. Janie was a member of the Mardi Gras organization La Luna Servante. She led on the Board and Ball Comity for several years and as President in 2001. Janie loved to sew and was known for her craftsmanship. She took great pride in creating beautiful one of a kind quilts for her loved ones.
Janie Windham spent her life selflessly loving, serving, and teaching those around her. She encapsulated the role of wife, mother, and homemaker completely. She was welcoming of everyone she met and no one was ever a stranger in her home. Janie was known for her incredible cooking and never let anyone leave without serving them a meal. Her kind heart, warm smile, and dedication to all those she called family will be remembered by all who knew her.
Janie is survived by her mother, Jane Parker; her husband, Bob Windham; son, Jeff Windham (Erika); daughter, Caton Windham (Josh); her two grandchildren, Sam and Toby Brooks; her sister, Phyllis Arden (Rick); nieces, Amanda Pike (Dennis) and Rachel Broadhead (William); great-nieces and nephews Kennedy and Karoline Pike, Daniel and Elizabeth Broadhead; along with many close friends and her sweet cat, Finnegan. Janie is preceded in death by her father, Thad Parker.
Services honoring Janie will be held at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Monday, July 11. Visitation will be 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm followed by a graveside service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Janie's name to the Murphy Band Boosters or another charity of your choice.

Who knew when Janie and I met 41 years ago we would become lifelong friends. We were meant to meet each other, just like Bob and Janie. It´s true, opposites do attract.
Bob enjoyed all sports and Janie´s passion was cooking and sewing but what they did share was an unfaltering love for each other. I tried teaching Janie to play softball, she tried teaching me to cook - neither were successful, but still we had an unbreakable lifetime bond.
My beautiful friend that touched so many lives is now a real angel.

I met Janie over 40 years ago when I moved to Mobile. She was very welcoming and took me to my first Mardi Gras parade. One day I asked her to teach me how to make gumbo. She said, " You can't learn to make gumbo! You have to be born here to understand how to make gumbo!!" Janie was a wonderful person.
