Janell Runner, loving mother, grandmother and sister, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away in the comfort of her own home on the morning of Friday, January 16, 2026 at the age of 72.
A celebration of life for Janell will take place on Friday, January 23, 2026 from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. Memorials in Janell’s name may be directed to her family for a later designation. Janell Larue Vaughn was born, February 21, 1953 in Marshalltown, Iowa. She was the third oldest of twelve children born to Johnnie and Doris (Atcher) Vaughn. She attended school in Marshalltown later graduating from Marshalltown High School in 1971. After graduation, Janell attended and graduated cosmetology school.
Janell adopted two children, Cameron and Alyson who became her whole world. She began work for the East Marshall Community School District where she was head of the District’s lunch program for 21 years. In her retirement years, Janell worked at Glenwood Place in Marshalltown. In free time, she enjoyed going on weekend trips with her family.
Those left to remember and cherish her memory are her children: Cameron Runner of Gilman and Alyson Runner of San Diego; her grandchildren: Roree Runner, Raeden Runner, Leila Runner, Maddox Miranda and Max Miranda; her siblings: Donnel (Linda) Vaughn, Randy (Cindy) Vaughn, Ronda Vaughn, Kevin (Traci) Vaughn, Doug (Lisa) Vaughn, Dennis (Chris) Vaughn, Dan (Jeanine) Vaughn and Joanie (Bob) Jamison; sister-in-law Becky Vaughn; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Johnnie and Doris Vaughn; and her brothers: Rod Vaughn, Tim Vaughn and Rick Vaughn.
