Janet Achen Obituary

Janet L. Achen

March 1, 1947 - December 15, 2025

Janet L. Achen passed away peacefully at her home on December 15, 2025 after a lengthy battle with Alzheimers.

Jan earned her Bachelor's and Master's Degree at NAU in Flagstaff and was a teacher and librarian in Yuma District #1 for 30 years.

After retiring, she was in charge of making transportation and lodging arrangements for her husband's business that took them across the U.S. Jan loved traveling and enjoyed being with family and friends, and didn't pass up an opportunity to go dancing with her husband. She was actively involved in helping to raise her grandchildren and volunteered at the Yuma County Library in the Foothills.

Jan was preceded in death by her father, Lee Taylor; mother, Jean Consaul Taylor, and brothers, Kit and Scott Taylor.

Jan is survived by her husband of 32 years, John Achen, and daughters Jennifer (Brian), Joy (Jody) and Rebecca (Brett); grandchildren, (Brad, Britney, Brenden, Scott, Kellsie, Thomas, Gwendolyn) and 6 great-grandchildren. Jan is also survived by her brother, Tom (Sue) Taylor and sister-in-law, Liz (Gary) and cousins including Babs, Cindy, Ross, Craig, Ann, Cheryl, Dorothy, Patti, Deborah C. and Debbie B. The extended family included many nieces and nephews, especially Sarah and Amanda, who maintained close contact with Jan throughout her life.

All of the Hospice of Yuma caregivers: Linda (RN), Veronica (CNA), Obe (Chaplain), Tim (Social Worker), and Dr. Ayala, did a remarkable job of helping Jan. If you would like to remember and honor Jan, please send your donation to Hospice of Yuma. The donation button is www.hospiceofyuma.com/donate.

There will be a "Get Together for Jan" in the near future at John and Jan's home in the Foothills.

I knew Jan from working at O.C. Johnson when she taught 6th grade, and I taught 5th. She had a beautiful smile, a great laugh, was always impeccably dressed, and was a caring teacher. Sincere condolences to her family. Praying they will be comforted by all their great memories of Jan.

Jan was a difference maker in my life. I will always be grateful for her delivering me my first BFF and patiently mentoring me from the time I was 4 years old.
She opened her home to me as a second home.
