Janet Angela Alston, age 86, of Royal Oak, Michigan, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2025, surrounded with love by her family.
Janet was born on May 7, 1938 to the late William Santerini and Irene Kochis in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Dondero High School in Royal Oak, Michigan, after relocating to the area with her family. She later relocated to Clearwater, Florida, to enjoy her retirement years.
Janet was predeceased by her husband, Edward Alston Sr.; her brothers, William (Linda) Santerini Jr. and Lawrence (Lois) Santerini; and her sister, Mary Ann Santerini. She is survived by her brother, Raymond (Nancy) Santerini; her son, Edward (Shari) Alston Jr.; her daughter, Catherine (Stevenson) White; granddaughter, Shelby Alston; grandson, David E. Edmonds, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins for whom she cared deeply.
Janet spent most of her career as an Executive Assistant, working primarily in the insurance industry. She was an avid golfer and bowler. She was very active in every community in which she lived. She served on several Boards and Committees, both in Michigan and Florida, both volunteer and elected, and she always had an interest in improving the lives of the people in her community.
A celebration of Janet's life will be held at Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Directors, 705 W. Eleven Mile Road, Royal Oak, Michigan on Saturday, May 3, 2025 at 12:00 noon, with visitation beginning at 10:00 am. If you would prefer, in lieu of sending flowers the family requests that friends and family plant pollinator garden flowers in her memory, at a location of their choice, to honor Janet's love of butterflies.
